Korea makes the list – “Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants”.

Opened in 2009, Jung-sik-dang in Sinsa-dong, Seoul comes in at #20 on San Pellegrino Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants (A50B) list. Over 900 people in the global restaurant sector contributed to the ranking. The #1 restaurant in Asia is located in Bangkok, Thailand and #2 in Tokyo, Japan. 80 South Koreans meet separated family members for first and last time this weekend.

The first of this week’s Inter-Korean reunions between North and South Korean family members ended today in Mount Gumkang, North Korea. 80 eldery South Koreans met 180 North Korean family members for the first and last time in over 60 years. A total of 10 hours were spent together over the three-day period before saying their final goodbyes.

A second group of 361 SK’s and 88 NK’s will begin a 3-day meet up on Sunday. This is the fifth set of reunions between the North and South.

Why are there so few tea shops in Korea?

When I arrived in Korea seven years ago, there were many non-specialized coffee shops that served beer, soda, and not so great coffee. Today, it’s completely different story. There are great coffee shops on every corner. My little neighborhood has no less than 10 coffee shops within a 3 to 4 minute walk. Koreans prefer local food over foreign food but not for soft drinks.

Government sponsored 5G network to be completed by 2020.

The South Korean government will invest $1.5bil to develop the technology for a 5G network that’s 1,000 times faster than 4G LTE. A trial service is planned for 2017 and the service is shooting for a 2020 launch.

Reduced flights to Japan due to weak Yen.
