나는 무슨 꽃이야?
Imagine asking an AI chatbot to describe you—not with a paragraph, but with a single word. A flower. A color. Maybe even a food.
Would you be a sunflower or a rose? A peaceful blue or a fiery red? And what would you say if the answer were… kimchi?

That is the idea behind AI 한 단어 챌린지, the “AI one-word challenge.” Yonhap reported on September 27 that this self-discovery game was attracting attention on Instagram Reels and TikTok among people in their twenties and thirties. Korean trend newsletter Trend A Word featured it on October 1, too. It is a timely little window into Korean internet culture—and an easy way to practice Korean.
One Word, Lots of Questions
The game begins by asking an AI to keep its answers to one word. Then you ask it to represent you as something: a flower, a season, a color, or an animal. Participants turn the answers into posts and short videos.
Here is a Korean instruction you can try:
나를 표현하는 단어를 하나씩 골라 줘. 대답은 한 단어로만 해 줘.
Nareul pyohyeonhaneun daneoreul hanassik golla jwo. Daedabeun han daneoroman hae jwo.
“Choose one word at a time to describe me. Answer with only one word.”
The useful pieces are 단어, “word,” and 표현하다, “to express” or “describe.” 한 단어로만 means “with only one word.”
You do not need complicated Korean to join in. Try these questions:
Vocabulary
- 나는 무슨 꽃이야? (Naneun museun kkochiya?) What flower am I?
- 나는 무슨 색이야? (Naneun museun saegiya?) What color am I?
- 나는 어떤 계절이야? (Naneun eotteon gyejeoriya?) What season am I?
- 나는 어떤 동물이야? (Naneun eotteon dongmuriya? What animal am I?
- 나를 한 단어로 표현하면? (Nareul han daneoro pyohyeonhamyeon?) If you described me in one word?
These are playful metaphorical questions. Nobody is literally asking whether they have turned into a flower!
“Wait… Why Am I Kimchi?”

For a made-up example, imagine this exchange:
나: 나는 어떤 음식이야?
Naneun eotteon eumsigiya?
“What food am I?”
AI: 김치.
Gimchi.
“Kimchi.”
나: 왜 하필 김치야?
Wae hapil gimchiya?
“Why kimchi, of all things?”
The star here is 하필 (hapil). It adds the feeling of “of all things,” “of all people,” or “of all times.” It is useful far beyond this challenge:
왜 하필 오늘 비가 와?
Wae hapil oneul biga wa?
“Why is it raining today, of all days?”
Reactions Worth Learning
The answer is only half the fun. The reaction gives you another Korean lesson.

찰떡 literally refers to sticky rice cake. Figuratively, it can describe something that fits wonderfully. A song and a singer, an outfit and a person, or an AI’s chosen word and your personality might be 찰떡.
These are useful existing expressions—not words newly invented for this challenge.
A Tiny Politeness Lesson
The examples above use 반말, casual speech. That works for a playful chatbot exchange or with a close friend who is comfortable using it with you.
To ask another person more politely, change:
나를 한 단어로 표현하면?
“If you described me in one word?”
to:
저를 한 단어로 표현하면 뭐예요?
Jeoreul han daneoro pyohyeonhamyeon mwoyeyo?
“What word would you use to describe me?”
Here, 나를 becomes the more humble 저를, and 뭐예요? supplies a polite ending.

Fun, Not a Personality Verdict
My take: a single unexpected answer makes an excellent conversation starter. You can agree with it, laugh at it, or ask a friend what they would have chosen instead.
But an AI-generated label is not a validated personality assessment. Treat it as a creative suggestion, not a revelation about your “true self.”. The best result might not be discovering your imaginary flower. It might be learning enough Korean to say, “That’s so me!”—or “Why that, of all things?”
오늘의 한마디 — Today’s Expression
나를 한 단어로 표현하면?
Nareul han daneoro pyohyeonhamyeon?
“If you described me in one word?”
Ask a friend, compare answers, and see where the conversation goes. What would your word be?
