iPhones and Apple Watches to support Apple Pay for Public Transportation

It was announced on 6/16/2025 that T-Money, a rechargeable pre-paid transportation card in Korea, will soon support Apple Pay. This means that you’ll soon be able to add a digital T-Money card to your iPhone and Apple Watch.

T-Money is an essential Korea. tap and pay NFC system that works in buses, subways, trains, taxi, highway tollbooths , subway vending machines, and convenience stores. It is supported in most major Korean cities.

For those living in Korea, people typically have a local credit card with this transportation function (후불교통, post-paid transportation). In this case, all of your public transportation rides are tabulated and billed at the end of the month (not immediately as in standard T-Money).

Apple Pay finally came to South Korea 3/23/2025. Many chain shops and restaurants currently support it. The actual date of Apple Pay support for public transportation is expected to be announced at any time. More info here.
