Competitive cultural promotion
Things are heating up in Asia as China and Japan attempt to steal some of the sunshine that Korea is currently enjoying from the world. Governments are trying to brand their countries as fun and cool and going so far as to put limits on the import of Korean TV dramas to better compete.
Korean Series continues to Game 7 as Red Sox win in the US.
Update 11/3: Sadly the Lions took their third straight Korean Series title.
An exciting MLB season came to a close as the Red Sox took the US Baseball’s World Series title. In Korea, the Lions rallied against the Bears to force Game 7 for the similar Korean Series.

The Korea Times reports that the sugar levels found in many yogurts in Korea are higher than some well-known chocolate snacks, like the beloved Choco Pie.

The popular “energy drink” of the 60’s and 70’s has returned to Seoul cafes. Although it’s called morning coffee it has little to do with the bean drink that we all know and love. Before modern coffee shops ruled Korea, people frequented places called dabang. Although the word dabang means “tea or coffee house”, they are different than Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts. Dabang are places that people could enjoy hot beverages while chatting with a hostess (most dabang now have older staff and many have closed). These coffee shops also provided a coffee delivery service by motorbike. A pretty girl would deliver the coffee to businesses or homes. Continue reading
