Seoul Adds English to Taxi Receipts to Protect Foreign Riders

Seoul is rolling out English-labeled taxi receipts to make rides clearer and safer for foreign visitors. Until now, receipts were issued only in Korean, making it difficult for tourists to understand base fares, late-night surcharges, or extra fees.

The new receipts show total fare, time, distance, surcharges, and complaint information in English, often with a QR code for quick reporting. This change follows hundreds of complaints from foreign riders about overcharging and unclear pricing.

Along with English receipts, Seoul is expanding QR-based reporting systems and improving English support in taxi apps like Kakao T. These steps aim to build trust and make Seoul more tourist-friendly as international travel continues to rebound.
